Successful Landscaping
The one factor that can determine if you will have a successful landscaping project or an unsuccessful landscaping project is hidden in the amount of pre-planning time that you have devoted to it. The degree of satisfaction in any landscaping endeavor is directly related to the amount of quality time that was dedicated to analyzing the precise structure, placement and color of all planting materials that are to be used.
The biggest mistake that some people make is not taking into consideration how large an elm, oak a weeping willow tree will be when they are fully grown. Ever see a house that appears to be eaten up by trees and shrubbery? Not a pretty sight. Tree roots penetrating cellar walls and retaining walls are not exactly what the successful landscaping project homeowner wants to be a part of. Tree branches draping over half of your roof is an absolute “no no”. It is even more of a problem when your trees tops are resting on your neighbor’s roof. A little tree sapling, tucked in between your beautifully flowering perennials may create a beautiful picture today, but in a few years you will wish you had never seen that tree. The same theory is true with evergreen bushes. A small twig can end up being a small mountain.

Designing the Landscape
Designing the landscape around your house, especially before you try to sell it, utilizes the same principles that we once used as a child when we were drawing a picture of our house. The picket fence and pathways leading to our front door were always included in our pictures. There was, most times, a drawing of a big, leafy tree and some pretty flowers were always included. Wonder why this was true.
Even as a small child, we had a sense of what made us happy. It wasn’t the expensive furniture or even the amount of toys we had; it was the feeling of security and happiness that seem to come from that drawing. Designing your landscape around your house can bring that same set of emotions to any potential buyers that may be considering the possibility of making your house; their house.
